Matfield, Kent
An award winning conversion of a listed oast building, sitting idyllically in an old apple orchard within the grounds of a Grade I Georgian house, converted into a family home. RIBA Jury: “ An inventive plan that maximises the potential of a difficult combination of volumes, the retention of original features alongside modernist features, the unpretentious restoration of the relocated barn, the exploitation of light in the high interior spaces of the oast houses all show how the skill of the architect can make a familiar conversion type into something quite special”.
